How to clean your Breville Barista Express

You probably know by now that the key to getting the most out of your espresso machine is cleaning it regularly. Most people aren’t convinced that this is as easy as it sounds, but trust us; it is actually easier than you think. The Barista Express is a great example of a machine that can take on almost any coffee drinker. Even though this version has been around for quite some time, it still maintains its top notch quality and reliability. All you need to do is to follow these steps to keep your Breville Barista Express in top shape: Cleaning Your Espresso Machine

Make sure the machine is cool before starting

Make sure that your machine is at least partially plugged in while you are cleaning. This will help to keep the internal temperature down and prevent damage to your machine. If you don’t turn on your machine while you are cleaning, it will save electricity and stay cooler longer.

Disconnect the milk frother

While you are cleaning, disconnect the milk frothing device from your machine. This will stop the milk from flowing and help to keep your machine cleaner. Once you have disconnected the frothing device, wash your machine with warm, soapy water to get rid of any remaining traces of coffee.

Remove any milk from the frothing device

After your machine has been cleaned, check to make sure that no dairy products are remaining in the frothing device. If you are still having issues, you can always purchase a few scoops of cream from the thrift store and use them as a mask for your next batch of coffee.

Wash the exterior of your machine with warm, soapy water

After you have removed all of the milk and dairy products, you are left with an attractive black machine. To clean the exterior of your machine, add a few drops of dish soap to a large bowl and fill the rest of the bowl with warm, soapy water. Scrunch up some paper towels and add them to the machine to mop up any remaining soap.

Add a few drops of dish soap to help clean out

After you have finished cleaning your machine, reach in and remove as much coffee as possible. You don’t need to take the whole drum or anything, just the amount that is necessary to get out any traces of coffee. You can use a coffee filter or paper towels to remove all of the coffee.

Clean your frothing device

After you have finished cleaning your machine, it is time to clean the frothing device. The easiest way to do this is to fill a large bowl with warm, soapy water and add the frothing device to the bowl. Scrub it down until all of the soap has been removed from the device and set it aside to dry.

Once you have finished cleaning your barista express, make sure that you wipe down all of the buttons as well. This will keep them clear of any coffee or milk residue and make them easier to use when you are ready to start making a new batch of coffee.

Make sure that you store your machine in a dry place while it is not in use. This will help prevent rust from forming on any metal parts and keep everything working smoothly for years to come.

After you have finished cleaning your machine and items, make sure that you dry them thoroughly. You can use a towel for the exterior of your machine and any other items that are made of plastic or similar materials. For any metal parts, it is a good idea to blow on them to make sure that they are completely dry before putting them away.

Cleaning Your Coffee Maker

Now that you have cleaned and sanitized your coffee maker, it is time to clean the coffee maker itself. Start by removing all of the parts from your machine and placing them in a safe place. This will include the carafe, lid, filter basket, brew basket, water reservoir, and any other removable parts.

Using a damp cloth or towel, wipe down all of the surfaces of your coffee maker that are accessible to you. This includes the exterior as well as any areas that are not easily visible when it is assembled or disassembled. Make sure that you wipe out any crevices and corners with a brush or toothpick if needed.

Once you have finished wiping down the exterior of your machine, it is time to remove and wash all of the removable components. You can use warm soapy water for this step if needed. Once they have been washed thoroughly, allow them to air dry before re-assembling your machine for use again.

If you want to make sure that your coffee maker is completely clean and sanitized, the best way to do this is to remove all of the removable parts and soak them in a bleach solution for several hours. This will kill any remaining bacteria or germs that may be clinging on for dear life.

It is not necessary to soak your machine in a bleach solution, but it is an option if you have time and want to take extra precautions. Once you have soaked the parts for several hours, wipe them down with a damp cloth or towel and allow them to air dry before re-assembling.

Cleaning Your Coffee Maker’s Water Reservoir

If you plan on cleaning a water reservoir on your own, it is best to remove this component from its place inside the machine first. This will make it easier for you to clean and sanitize it without having to worry about spilling any water everywhere when performing this task.

Once you have removed the reservoir, wipe it down with a clean damp cloth or towel. If you want to make sure that all germs and bacteria are removed, use some bleach solution on a toothbrush to scrub out any hard to reach areas. Rinse the reservoir thoroughly before placing it back inside of the machine.

Cleaning Your Coffee Maker’s Filter Basket

Most coffee maker models have removable filter baskets that can be removed and cleaned on their own. If this is the case with your machine, place the filter basket in a sink filled with warm soapy water and allow it to soak for several minutes or longer if needed. Once it has soaked, wash and rinse the filter basket thoroughly before placing it back inside of your machine for use again.

If your filter basket cannot be removed from its place inside of your coffee maker, then you may need to take extra steps in order to clean it properly. This may include removing any housing or plates that cover up part of the basket so that you can gain access to every inch of its surface area. Once you have done this, wipe down the entire surface using warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly before re-assembling everything together again.
